Crystal Glass – The Glass Artist's Crystal Canvas
A significant portion of our glassware selection is crafted from crystal glass. Unlike ordinary glass, crystal glass contains a considerable amount of precious metal oxides—at least 10% as per EU regulations. These elements render the glass colorless, brilliant, and transparent in any thickness. Only when these criteria are fulfilled can the glass be colored, shaped, cut, polished, engraved, and adorned with gold and platinum by master artisans.
Every manufacture has its own formula to create crystal glass with distinctive characteristics, enabling them to fine-tune the exact properties of their crystal glass to suit their individual needs and strengths. The production of crystal glass is a fascinating and ever-evolving field of research, leaving us to wonder what innovations lie ahead.
The Historical Heavyweight – Lead Crystal
Lead crystal, often simply referred to as crystal, contains a significant amount of lead oxide—at least 24% according to EU regulations. For centuries, it was regarded as the gold standard for crystal glass. The surprisingly heavy lead glass exhibits unparalleled brilliance when cut, and today, it is most commonly employed for decorative objects such as chandeliers and vases.
Brilliance and weight are not the only distinguishing features of lead crystal. It also produces a unique sound, with even a gentle tap of the finger eliciting clear, bright, and sustained tones from the glass.
Lead crystal drinkware has become a rarity. When handled with care, it can endure for generations. It is advisable to clean it by hand, avoid storing food and beverages in it for extended periods, and refrain from stacking it. The extra care is worth it, as well-maintained crystal pieces may one day become sought-after collector's items.
Lead crystal and crystal glass are both premium materials, each with its own distinct advantages—choose freely based on your preferences.
Each Handcrafted Piece is Unique
Europe's glass manufacturers—whether from France, the Czech Republic, or Germany—have been creating artistically and culturally significant objects for centuries. Only the finest and most innovative artisans who push the boundaries of their craft have persevered. Their goal: perfection down to the smallest detail.
In France, the Cristallerie Baccarat, Cristallerie de Montbronn, Saint-Louis, founded as early as the 16th century, and the haute couture forge Lalique continue to produce breathtakingly beautiful pieces. In the Czech Republic, Moser and Artel inspire new talent with an incredible play of colors, while Theresienthal and Rotter Glas from Germany have garnered international acclaim.
Radiant colors, artistic cuts, hand-engraved motifs, singular shapes, and luxurious gold and platinum ornaments—handcrafted glassware sets captivating contrasts to cutlery and tableware. Our carefully curated selection will captivate and enchant your guests at any event.
