Balloon with fish
In his first collaboration with Vienna's Lobmeyr glassworks, New York designer Ted Muehling merges historical trends with modern design to create Balloon with Fish collection.
Inspired by simple shapes of Roman and early European glass, this collection combines utility, beauty and wit.
Muehling's designs feature convex and concave shapes that invite touch, with indentations at the bottom adding a sensual curve. Though some designs are intended for specific drinks like beer, cognac and schnapps, they are versatile enough for any beverage.
Muehling reimagined classic monograms with oversized, abstract letters and also included flourishes resembling the flight path of an insect. These glasses are adorned with motifs inspired by artists Maria Sybilla Merian and Jacob Hoefnagel, as well as Biedermeier period designs like goldfish and eyes, adding a touch of creativity and humor.
