About NASON MORETTI

No doubt, this special glass holds its own kind of magic and quiet magnetism: whether it’s the gradient that shifts from opaque to clear, the dance of light between glossy and matte surfaces, the vibrant texture, or the unmistakable touch of artistic brushwork.

The manufactory’s collections are like gateways into a one-of-a-kind little world of refinement and artistic mastery served with unmistakable Italian flair and vibrant passion.

The Nason Moretti Story

The lavorazione began at just the right moment — when Italy, like the rest of Europe, was at the height of its decorative arts boom, infused with a growing taste for luxury. In the post-war period, the company expanded its horizons and possibilities by experimenting with colors, shades, glassblowing techniques, structure, and texture.

Despite its progressive, experimental spirit, the company never strayed from traditional craftsmanship — bringing in only the finest glassblowers with years of hands-on experience. A major leap toward peak popularity came when the company launched its first concept-driven collection, Lidia, which earned the prestigious Compasso d’Oro at the Milan Triennale and opened the door to new clients.

The Italian luxury glassware house Nason Moretti is, at its core, a true family business.

It was founded over a century ago by relatives from artisan families — their names forever etched into the brand itself. The company is still run by the descendants of brothers Antonio, Giuseppe, Vincenzo, and Umberto — a family who knows exactly how to craft glassware that’s both unique and perfectly made.

Materials and Unique Color Recipes

At the heart of it all is Murano glass known for its exceptional clarity, fluidity, and endless possibilities in color. And the unique pigment formulas and finishing techniques: that’s where the magic begins, turning glass into soulful masterpieces, each with its own emotion. The greatest achievement of Nason Moretti glassware lies in its alchemical color experiments, giving the brand its own secret, unusual, and deeply personalized palette of pigments.

One-of-a-kind innovations:

  • 30 in-house formulas for green shades, each with its unique depth
  • 8 exclusive, intensely rich shades of blue
  • Neon yellow, brought to life through uranium glass
  • Opalescent ivory glass with a soft, pearly glow
  • Metal oxides (cobalt, gold, and copper) to create a truly unique color trace in every piece.

By the way, collections made with these rare glass shades are released in limited batches (sometimes with years between editions) which makes them especially valuable and highly coveted by collectors and top designers alike.

Traditional and Signature Techniques of Murano Handmade Glass

Among all luxury Italian produzione — and, really, among Europe’s elite glass studios in general — the Murano brand stands out with its unique signature: the use of age-old techniques to combine different types of glass, colors, and finishing methods — all within a single piece.

Here are a few of them:

  • Torsé is a thermal technique where the glass is heated to the point that a natural, one-of-a-kind spiral relief forms on its surface.
  • The incamiciato effect, or layered glass, brings together multiple colors, textures, and glass types in one piece. The resonant and impressive Samarcanda vase collection is a rich example of this technique and the beauty of true handcrafted artistry.
  • The Rigàdìn technique creates inexpressibly beautiful hand-formed vertical ridges — delicate grooves that flow in different directions across the surface.
  • The Filigrana method creates the finest, most delicate threads, as if they’ve been gently fused into the soft body of the glass.
  • The traditional Murano Balloton technique gives the refined glass a textured look that resembles a honeycomb pattern. A special hot-glass pressing technique creates a unique bubbled texture — as seen in the Tolomeo glasses, where each piece features a one-of-a-kind surface, color blend, and tactile feel.
  • The Lente technique creates a mesmerizing optical effect, similar to that of a lens: the raised patterns on the surface — like in the Twist series — not only bend light and distort reflections, but also add a sense of depth.

All these techniques — and many more — are the result of centuries of evolution in Italian glassmaking and a deep commitment to preserving its traditions.

It’s worth highlighting the incredible skill and craftsmanship of the artigiano di lavoro: glassblowers train for many years under a traditional mentorship system, where mastery is passed down from hand to hand. New artisans learn the art of creating hand-blown glass from Murano side by side with true maestri, who pass down their knowledge and hands-on skills gradually, step by step, right in the flow of the work.

What to Know About the Style of Nason Moretti Murano Glass

Though the brand has a century-long history, it always stays current — effortlessly adapting to the spirit of every era. In the 1920s and ’30s, the pieces carried the distinct flair of Art Deco, while in the second half of the 20th century, they adopted the clean lines and spirit of Modernism. Today, the house of Nason Moretti knows no boundaries — offering a rich, multifaceted world of styles and designs.

Top style direction — bestsellers:

  • Elegant minimalism, as seen in the Idra collection, comes to life through a variety of classic cut shapes and a rich palette of colors: no unnecessary detail — just pure modesty, perfectionism, and the beauty of flawless silhouettes.
  • Experimental chaos and bold contrast, as seen in the Dandy glasses and jugs, are one of the brand’s signature traits, where daring mixes of colors and glass types come together in unexpected harmony.
  • Eccentric flair, vividly expressed in the Burlesque glasses series, where perfect geometric proportions meet brash, high-energy color duos — available in as many as 12 striking combinations.
  • A modern take on Murano classics, where historical designs are reimagined through the lens of nowadays design and fashion trends — with examples like the Borealis collection or Divini stemware.
  • Vintage-inspired series that blend traditional shapes with luxurious glass color palettes — a flashy example of this approach is the Marais shot glass collection.

The beauty of Murano glass by Nason Moretti lies in its flexibility: thanks to its wide range of styles, it fits effortlessly into any setting or décor concept, from a yacht deck or modern loft to a grand palace banquet hall.

Iconic and Cult-Favorite Nason Moretti Pieces

The sheer artistry of this Italian manufactura is nothing short of breathtaking: over the past hundred years, their workshops have created more than 10,000 designs, from glasses and vases to decanters, lamps, and decorative objects. Still, the true icons of the brand remain the Nason Moretti glass collections — pieces that have outlived their time and now continue to write their own story beyond it.

  • One of the brand’s most iconic and recognizable pieces is the Lidia collection, crafted using the unique inverted layer method. It was the first piece to transform luxury glassware from ornate decoration into something that feels like true, functional elegance.
  • The Gallone 236 glass pitcher and bar mixer is a top star for anyone who loves cocktail nights and hosts with a taste for sleek, modern home bars. It features a unique design with an ice-stopper spout — originally created specifically for the perfect Bellini.
  • The Rep glasses are refined glass goblets created by the brand specifically for official receptions at the Quirinal Palace of the President of Italy.
  • The Basculante spirit glasses are famous for their shape — a perfect reflection of the style and ingenuity behind Murano hand-blown glass: their rounded base resembles the hull of a boat, letting the glass gently rock without ever tipping over.

But that’s far from the full list we’d love to share because this studio’s creations are considered some of the most well-known glassware under the Made in Italy name, and each one deserves its own moment of admiration and awe.

Collaborations as Part of the Branding

Collaborations have always been a key branding strategy and a powerful way to spotlight collections. Unique and one-of-a-kind pieces came to life through creative collaborations with artists from different disciplines, visionary designers, top fashion houses, international festivals, luxury hotels, and world-class restaurateurs.

  • Elena Salmistraro, Maria Grazia Rosin, Fabio Bortolani, Matteo Zorzon, Stefano Marcato, and others have lent their talents to bold art objects and experimental series.
  • Luxury legends like Hermès, Tiffany & Co., Giorgio Armani, Dior, and Valentino have collaborated with the manufactory, adding refined and original Murano glass pieces to their collections.
  • Major events like the Venice Biennale often choose exclusive pieces for their table settings — like the Gigolo glasses, which have been featured at the Art Biennale, Architecture Biennale, and The Venice Glass Week.
