About FÜRSTENBERG

When you turn over a plate and find that elegant monogram, you can be sure you’re holding a true masterpiece—porcelain by Fürstenberg.

The manufactory began its journey nearly 300 years ago, back in the Rococo era, and over time, it has developed and expanded its innovative approach, allowing its simple forms and exceptional decorative patterns to adapt beautifully to ever-changing trends and artistic styles.

Signature Features of Fürstenberg Porcelain

The iconic style of dinnerware and figurines from this legendary German manufactory is instantly recognizable among elite families or collectors of fine porcelain, but far beyond.

Today, this high-quality finish—with 24-karat gold accents, brash designs, unexpected shapes, and practical details—can be found in different places: from ultra-modern residences in exotic locations and top-tier restaurants to private jets and multimillion-dollar yachts. Private clients and luxury design projects choose this dinnerware because it guarantees German quality with meticulous precision—crafted from top-grade kaolin porcelain, finished with the finest glaze, and perfected entirely in-house through exceptional handwork that makes each piece truly one of a kind.

From its founding in 1747 until the 1980s, the manufactory was housed in a grand old hunting castle in the town of Fürstenberg itself—a place chosen by Duke Charles I of Brunswick as the home for his porcelain enterprise. Every piece and collection by Fürstenberg Porcelain carries a special message—a gentle reminder that true beauty should always be useful, too.

Why Fürstenberg China Became So Well-Known

The workshop was originally founded with a clear goal to compete with the already established Meissen porcelain by producing items for dinner and decoration that were just as refined and high in quality. It was a place of experimentation and learning where forgotten techniques were revived, knowledge was carefully gathered, and unique expertise was built to create refined yet practical pieces, all crafted with extraordinary attention to the smallest details and truly artistic decoration.

Evolving with the Times

The brand has always moved with the spirit of each artistic era and drew inspiration from changing trends and styles, translated them into unique patterns, motifs, and finishes that have kept its pieces timeless and in constant demand.

At different points, the manufacturer released collections that reflected the popular tastes and artistic movements of their era:

  • Rococo – pieces from this period are full of graceful curves, floral motifs.
  • Classicism – collections were designed with clean lines, balanced symmetry, and themes inspired by ancient art and architecture.
  • Biedermeier – the décor from this epoch blended simplicity with quiet elegance.
  • Art Nouveau and Bauhaus – items combined geometric shapes, minimalism, and a strong sense of functionality.

Achievements of the Fürstenberg House

Fürstenberg china has earned multiple prestigious awards—such as the Red Dot, iF Design, and German Design Award—confirming its status as one of the world’s leading luxury porcelain makers. Ongoing collaborations with renowned artists, sculptors, designers, and chefs have brought it even greater success and lasting appeal.

  • The first hugely successful collaboration was 1934 with the legendary Bauhaus designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld. The result was the iconic “Service 639” set—instantly recognizable for its refined shape, honored for its simplicity, and admired for its elegant restraint.
  • In 2018, the architectural and design studio Foster and Partners teamed up with Fürstenberg to create the iconic gastronomic set DATUM—a top-seller for home use and a popular choice in the hospitality world. It became the world’s first modern tableware collection with a clearly defined system with specially designed contours, perfected to serve food and set the table with maximum functionality and style. The DATUM White line stands out with its crisp, almost inside-out shapes, inspired by precise geometric sketches. The collection is available in a classic glossy finish, as well as in the DATUM Satin Finish version with a beautiful blend of velvety matte and smooth textures across the surface.
  • Another stylish restaurant-ready gourmet line, BLANC, is the result of a creative collaboration between designer Mikaela Dörfel and a star lineup of culinary masters. The items from BLANC White have been developed for two years specifically for refined, high-end cuisine. This series introduced a few standout innovations: a unique cloche for dramatic, elegant presentation, and a thoughtfully designed finish where the underside is left unglazed and finely polished to a soft matte for a secure grip.

Luxury with Versatile Qualities

The finest porcelain from Fürstenberg is a popular, well-considered choice for many top restaurant and hotel chains. It’s also a favorite design tool for studios working with commercial spaces, executive offices, upscale residences, on expensive watercraft or airborne vessels, when it comes to decoration or serving food at a truly elevated level.

Highly functional collections like WAGENFELD, for example, are a favorite choice for elegant residences that regularly host banquets or for embassies where refined hospitality is a must. Exclusive Bauhaus-inspired shapes and a classic pure-white finish open up endless possibilities for mixing, matching, and getting creative with your table setting. The pieces from WAGENFELD White and Schwarze Linie with platinum rims look equally stunning in minimalist spaces and alongside artistic antiques.

The corporate world gladly turns to Fürstenberg porcelain for elegant décor, branded gifts, and memorable keepsakes. There’s something especially refined about gifting a partner or valued team member a sculptural piece with a touch of Japanese Zen from the LINDA Vases collection. The understated white design, with its repeating geometric ridges, looks striking in a wide range of interiors, so it can make an excellent accent piece for any office and apartment styled in minimalism or contemporary loft aesthetics.

It’s also worth noting how well all of Fürstenberg’s porcelain pieces adapt to modern needs, from kitchen equipment to exceptional durability.

Fürstenberg Collections That Inspire

We’d love to share a few luxury tableware lines that continue to captivate decorators and porcelain lovers. Among them, you can find patterns with deep historical roots as well as modern, contemporary designs.

  • The GRECQUE line is a perfect example of a historic collection, crafted in the 1840s in the spirit of Biedermeier elegance. The most minimalist of the three is GRECQUE White—pure white porcelain with a soft, glossy finish that catches the light. The most ornate and romantic version is GRECQUE Mille Fleurs with imperial design elements: golden geometric shapes and finely detailed minimalist flowers.
  • The iconic and highly sought-after AURÉOLE pieces were created based on the unique sketches of Korean ceramic artist Kap-Sun Hwang—featuring nearly flat plates with a gently raised center and large bowls with wing-like handles. It’s worth highlighting the versatile AURÉOLE White set—perfect for any type of table setting—and the AURÉOLE Clair de Lune collection, with its subtle nod to the mystery and sacred beauty of the moon, beautifully captured in its 24-karat gold detailing.
  • One of the most intriguing collections of five distinct sets was created by designer Carlo Dal Bianco in 2009. It features handcrafted plates and cups with edges that appear gently turned outward. For example, the CARLO Este design is inspired by the charming Italian town of Vicenza and its traditional mosaic patterns with touches of gold against a soft green background. Pieces from the elegant Carlo Oro collection feature a smooth, crystal-white surface, gently brushed by hand with varying strokes of gold. The German manufactory showcased its versatility and stylistic range by introducing another unique variation, CARLO Tessuto—a collection where the richness of Italian fabrics is artistically reinterpreted through handcrafted designs.
  • One of the company’s more recent creations to debut in the past decade is the FLUEN collection. The pieces from The Fluen Heritage Green set are an ode to modern minimalism, gracefully woven together with traditional imperial shades of green and elegant gold detailing. To give the collection a more festive and energetic feel, it was finished with a clear, glossy glaze. The next design, called FLUEN Shifting Colors features layered color panels that overlap like a kaleidoscope, creating a playful and dynamic effect. The exclusive FLUEN Luminea collection has a soft, delicate look of ultra-fine, translucent ginkgo leaves set against shimmering pearlescent shades of green. A special matte finish adds even more depth to the overall look, creating a unique silky texture and a soft, tactile feel.
