About HELLE MARDAHL
The Magical Story of Helle Mardahl Studio
This Scandinavian high-end decor brand may be young, but it’s already made a strong name in the world of upscale design. Studio was founded in 2017, and in its short life, it has already gone through an intense journey of growth and development, with its luxury glassware now recognized far beyond Denmark—featured at top design fairs, museum exhibitions, and some of the world’s most renowned concept stores.
The heart of the brand is Helle Mardahl—a talented Danish artist and designer who was always on a creative journey, searching for new ways to express herself: she explored fashion, painted, and brought to life all kinds of unique art objects. The inspiration came to her suddenly, from her childhood—back when she dreamed of having her own candy shop. But this time, the sweets were different—not made of sugar, but of mouth-blown glass. Just as delicious, but in a whole new way.
The first pieces created by the artist were unique glass lamps and egg-shaped decor objects—a kind of debut Easter Collection that came to life in 2017. That’s when the studio officially began, and that’s where the signature aesthetic of the brand started to take shape.
Then came the now-iconic Helle Mardahl Candy Collection, which poured out all her imagination and her vision of what a perfect candy shop looks like through a child’s eyes: a burst of fruity and bubblegum colors, matte and glossy candy-like surfaces, and smooth, but slightly imperfect shapes—each with its charm.
The showroom and workshop in the heart of Copenhagen feel like a real-life Willy Wonka wonderland—brought to life through glass. Stepping inside feels like crossing into another world, one filled with a special visual and tactile atmosphere.
The Philosophy Behind Helle Mardahl Glassware
The studio shares a philosophy of joy, childhood nostalgia, playfulness, and soft romance—expressed through the sweet, candy-like aesthetic and toy-inspired style that makes Helle Mardahl glassware so unique.
The artist’s endless source of inspiration is her youth—a world bursting with color, joy, and that wild, childlike excitement from jars filled with lollipops and bubblegum, crinkly bags of uneven, colorful candies, glossy gummy shapes, and the rough texture of an ice cream cone. All of it is carefully and precisely translated into her décor and design pieces, with almost jewel-like precision and a strong focus on how things feel to the touch.
Even the colors of each piece are carefully thought out by the artist—she names them after beloved desserts. It almost sounds like a gelato menu! And the names of the pieces are just as tasty: Bonbonniere, Candy Bowl, Bubblegum Lamp, Goblet Jelly, and so on.
The Magic of Making
Every piece is 100% unique—handmade from start to finish. The Helle Mardahl Studio pieces are mouth-blown by skilled artisan craftsmen in Denmark and Europe, made in small batches using traditional techniques and various experimental methods that allow for whimsical shapes and different surface thicknesses.
There’s no mechanical processing—just a light polishing, without turning it into a factory-perfect finish. All the tiny bubbles, rough spots, small bumps, and little imperfections stay on the surface—making each piece uniquely one-of-a-kind in its own way. Only this way can you truly feel the human, living energy in each piece—and only this way can it become one of a kind. By the way, speaking of uniqueness—all pieces are always limited edition glass items.
On top of that, there are also art objects and decor elements that were made as one-of-a-kind pieces and will never be produced again. Each item also gets its touch of uniqueness from the artist’s signature. Helle personally adds her initials to every item, confirming its authenticity.
The Double Purpose of Helle Mardahl Lighting, Home Accessories, and Luxury Tableware
One of the signature features of the lighting, home accessories, and luxury tableware is their double purpose. Thanks to their whimsical and unusual shapes, the Helle Mardahl high-end glass pieces always look like art objects at first glance—sophisticated decor items with no copies or imitations. They can effortlessly decorate any space—no matter the style or interior design. Just one glass piece is enough to change the mood—bringing life, color, joy, and an incredible sense of style to the whole interior concept.
Despite their exotic look, all the pieces are easy to mix and match—with each other and other decor items. This gives designers and anyone who loves to play with space plenty of room to bring fresh, original ideas to life.
Assortment
The Helle Mardahl candy-inspired glass design comes to life in a range of pieces: lighting, tableware, decorative vases, and sculptural objects.
- Lighting is one of the brand’s signature highlights. This is the first product line that started the brand’s rise to popularity: one-of-a-kind articles that look like shiny candies, feel alive and full of warmth, and when they light up, they become magical, weightless objects that seem to hang in the air.
- The Helle Mardahl luxury glass tableware collection is a diverse and complete set of items for decorating and setting up a table or bar—no matter how simple or elaborate. These aren’t just plates or glasses, pitchers, or candy bowls—they’re high-end designer tools with personality, created to make your dining experience more emotional and more appetizing.
- Designers especially love the unique glass sculptures with classic candy shapes and colors—they bring a sense of celebration, joy, imagination, and liveliness to bold design projects. What unites them all is one thing: every creation looks like it came straight out of a magical candy shop.
The Most Popular and Iconic Pieces of The Handmade Danish Glass
Almost every item made by the studio is a bestseller. They're all in high demand and not always easy to get—which makes them especially valued.
- One of the most well-known products is the iconic Bonbonniere—whimsical candy-like jars in different sizes and bold color combos, from soft pink with lemon yellow to mint paired with lilac. It’s a pretty practical piece that can be used in all kinds of ways.
- The Bon Bon lamp series comes in joyful color variations and features bold shapes in glossy and matte finishes. The Pendant Lamps from the Candy Collection are especially popular—they look like big colorful lollipops hanging from the ceiling. And the contrasting Helle Mardahl table lamps resemble playful little mushrooms or ice cream on a stand.
- A definite hit is the Signature Glass with a Twist—the iconic glass that goes far beyond the usual idea of shape and function in regular barware. It features an impressive, sculptural design combined with layers of colorful glass. The color range is just as impressive—one version, for example, combines shades of rhubarb, lavender, and pear. Without a doubt, it’s the perfect glass for cocktails or wine, turning every sip into an aesthetic pleasure.
- The incredibly eye-catching bowls and dishes from the Perfect Bowl and Bon Bon Dish series feature the same smooth, rounded shapes and delicious color combos—like Caramel Apple and Blueberry Ice Cream. They can be used in all sorts of ways: as candy bowls, fruit bowls, or for serving snacks—as well as trays for keys, office supplies, makeup, or even as part of a decorative installation.
- Although the brand is better known for its tableware and lamps, the Helle Mardahl colorful glass vases are also very popular. One standout is The Vase Mega in Champagne or Blue Lollipop—it can serve as a sculptural statement piece in any space. Many designers love using these vases for various installations and to create a focal point in a space. By the way, all the vases are limited edition, so owning one is always a sign of refined taste and a strong sense of style.
